Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has revealed that beating Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier this month has boosted confidence at the club.
Spurs entered the clash with Real Madrid off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Manchester United in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side returned to winning ways in impressive fashion, however, as they recorded a 3-1 victory over the European champions at Wembley.
Dier has claimed that Spurs would have been confident regardless of the result against Los Blancos, but the England international has said that the victory was vital for morale as the capital club look to end their long wait for a major trophy.
Dier told reporters:
“I believe what we are doing is right, that has been the case for a long time. Win, lose, or draw against Real Madrid, that would have been the same. Winning that game has obviously given us confidence as individuals and as a group.
“You’ve got to keep trying to improve and push the boundaries. That’s the same for club and country; you’ve got to keep trying to improve. That’s the key.”
“The games we have had in the last month have been really good and the results have been very positive.”
Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend has left them third in the Premier League table – level on points (23) with second-placed Manchester United.
After the international break, Spurs will continue their league season with a trip to bitter rivals Arsenal on November 18, before visiting Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on November 21.
