Fenerbahce are closing in on the signing of Tottenham Hotspur winger Moussa Sissoko on loan, according to reports from Turkish newspaper AMK via Turkish-Football.
What’s the word?
Two years after pipping Everton to a reported £30m deal for Moussa Sissoko, Tottenham could finally be set to wave goodbye to the France international that has been extremely disappointing during his time in North London.
Turkish newspaper AMK via Turkish-Football report that Fenerbahce are closing in on an agreement for the 29-year-old that will see Sissoko move to the Super Lig side on loan until the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
Damien Comolli, formerly Spurs’ director of football, is said to be leading the discussions for Sissoko and a deal is unlikely to include a permanent option in the future as Fenerbahce battle to adhere to UEFA’s strict Financial Fair Play regulations.
The right move?
Spurs definitely need to look at offloading Moussa Sissoko after his disappointing stint with the Lilywhites but this summer may not be the right time to do that, as Mauricio Pochettino would be left with a lack of depth in midfield.
After failing to land any recruits this summer, Tottenham’s squad looks rather lean in a number of areas and Sissoko is one of few options in the middle beneath Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier, although the latter is more defensive while other options, including Dele Alli, thrive in more advanced roles.

With Harry Winks sidelined through injury, Spurs’ depth in the middle is already looking rather thin and further problems could emerge over the course of the next few weeks when Champions League football emerges.
As such, it is probably wise for Pochettino to wait until January before approving an exit for Sissoko.
