Chelsea captain Reece James has described England boss Thomas Tuchel as the best manager he has worked with in his career so far.

James has risked the wrath of Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca with his comments. The Chelsea captain, who is part of Tuchel's first England squad, was part of the Blues team that won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup under the German during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel has now been tasked with winning the World Cup with England and has recalled James to the Three Lions squad following his return to fitness. James will now be hoping to impress his former boss and cement his place in the England team in time for the 2026 World Cup finals in North America, Canada and Mexico.

James was put on the spot when asked by for the best manager he's worked under. The Chelsea captain was a little hesitant to reply and then laughed before answering: "[Tuchel] is the best coach from the ones I've worked with. There's various reasons why. He brought trophies to Chelsea when we probably least expected it, in a difficult period."

The Three Lions kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign on Friday against Albania at Wembley and then host Latvia at the same venue on Tuesday, with James hoping to win his first England caps since March 2023.
