Arsene Wenger has had a meagre bid for Bolton defender Gary Cahill turned down according to the Mirror.
Wenger has targeted the England defender as he looks to shore up his notoriously weak back line.
Cahill is valued at £17 million by the Trotters but the Gunners boss has only offered £6 million plus extras for his services.
That is around a THIRD of his valuation and it was so low that boss Owen Coyle dismissed it immediately.
The offer made by Wenger is puzzling considering Bolton have stated they would be prepared to sell their prized asset at a fair price.
Arsenal have made Cahill their top target after failing to sign Everton’s Phil Jagielka for £12 million and shying away from Christopher Samba due to his price-tag.
He wants to join a team challenging at the top of the Premier League and in Europe to solidify his chances of claiming a regular England place.
Bolton are happy to sell him considering he is in the last year of his contract but could still try and convince him to sign a new deal at the Reebok Stadium.
If that doesn’t happen and nothing transpires before the transfer deadline the Lancashire club could move him on in January when he’ll still be eligible for Champions League duty.
